What Brush Clearing & Rough Mowing Cost

Real numbers, before you call anybody

Why We Publish Prices

It can be very difficult to put a number on anything without seeing each unique job in person. Every property is different, and a bad guess always costs somebody in the end. But it also leaves you unable to plan, and unable to tell whether the quote you got is fair.

So here is a general starting point for what this work can run in our area. These are the ranges we try to work from, and the same ones our calculators use. Your job could land outside them; the walk/drive through is what clarifies it, and we don't charge just to take a look.

We're not a lawn service. We start where the lawn mower gets past it's designed capabilities; rough, brushy, overgrown acreage. That said, properties that mix rough ground with finish mowing is something we'll certainly look at if it makes sense.

Mowing, by the Acre

Mowing is priced per acre, and the rate drops as the acreage goes up — on a big field the machine spends its time mowing instead of turning around.

Brush Hogging, by the Hour

Once a pasture or field has gone past tall grass into saplings and thorny brush, the acre stops being a useful unit — two acres of solid multiflora rose is not the same work as two acres of scattered weeds. That work is billed hourly.

Brush hogging
ConditionTypical range
Light to moderate growth$85 – $120 per hour
Heavy, dense growth$120 – $150 per hour

Brush Clearing, by the Job

Forestry mulching is quoted per job, because density decides everything. A mulcher covers roughly one to four acres a day — four when it's scattered saplings, one when it's a wall of multiflora rose and honeysuckle. Once we've seen and walked it, we can estimate how many days it is, and that's your price.

Late fall through winter is the cheapest and cleanest time to do it: firm ground, dormant brush, and you can see the property lines. More on how a clearing job runs →

Trail Work, by the Mile

Trail mowing and maintenance is priced by the mile and by condition — width, how much runs through timber, and how long since the last cut. The trail calculator gives you a range in about thirty seconds, including season plans, which run cheaper per visit than one-off calls.

What Moves Your Number

Pushes it up

Growth that's been left two or three seasons. Obstacles to mow around — trees, posts, rock piles, wet spots. Rough or uneven ground. A long haul from Cascade. Small acreage, where setup is most of the day.

Pulls it down

Acreage: the more there is, the less per acre. A standing schedule instead of one-off calls — recurring customers pay less per visit. Open ground with clean edges. Winter timing on clearing work.

Always the same

The estimate is free and so is the walkthrough. You get a price before a machine comes off the trailer, and we don't start work you haven't approved.

Two more things worth saying plainly: small jobs carry a minimum charge, because getting equipment to your place costs the same whether we mow half an acre or five. And there is ground we won't take on — slopes too steep to run a machine safely, and ground where rock is the main obstacle. We'll tell you that at the walkthrough rather than after.
